Summer Tutoring and Classes

Summer tutoring is an integral part of the   American education system. That’s what makes our children learn more and excel later on in college. That’s what, in the end, makes us the envy of the world. After an ongoing school year is done, summer tutoring could be seen to be a remedial session or a preparation ground for the next school year. Northern Virginia tutor excels at providing need specific tutoring to children of ages 3 – 12.

But why is summer camp so important? There are many reasons for this

  • First it prevents students from falling behind. School year can be hectic. With the many subjects that the student learns it is at times hard for them to keep up with their courses. English and math aside there are basic science, geography and in some schools additional languages. Sometimes children fail to keep up. This is where summer camps come in handy. They reinforce what the children have learnt previously.
  • Most summer camps provide one- on- one interaction between the tutor and the student. This helps the teacher to better identify the student’s needs and work on it. In the end, what you get is a child who learns and develops more. Increase in self-esteem is the result of the child understanding that he is better than before.
  • Summer camps and particularly Northern Virginia helps students get ahead for the next school year. Learning the basics in math, English and science; they are better prepared for what is to come and are better able to cope with the pressure.

As discussed in an earlier article, English and math skills are given top priority. For English grammar, punctuation, composition, fluency and vocabulary building are dealt with. Children systematically learn age and grade appropriate topics/skills. For math, beginners learn the fundamentals of mathematical computation i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Later on as they progress higher they learn complicated concepts such as fractions and decimals. These courses are taught according to the children’s level of education. Rarely, on the need of the parents and after careful evaluation we teach higher skills than what is needed for the next school year.

Summer camp is on and parents are anxious for their children. What we can do is assure them that their children are in good hands and offer the tutoring needed to bring about any student to do their best and excel when school starts this September.

These are the Basic Structure of our curriculum:

Foundation Math 1 & 2 (Ages 6 -12): Grade-appropriate math skills and concepts are taught in a fun, stress-free setting. Rising 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders revisit and build on such key math skills and concepts as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, number sense, place value, rounding, estimation, fractions and decimals. Rising 5th, 6th, and 7th graders review & preview the application of addition, subtraction, multiplication & division to fractions; decimals, percent and some pre-algebraic concepts.

The WRITE Way (Ages 7 – 12): Based on their grade level, students learn to compose well-structured paragraphs and essays. Emphasis is placed on grammar, punctuation and the important steps of the writing process.

Reading Comprehension & Vocabulary (Ages 6 – 12): Grade appropriate comprehension skills, oral reading, fluency, critical reading, & vocabulary building are covered. Students identify author’s purpose, main idea, cause & effect, similarities & differences during this camp.
